A little about Keli…
Colette Paperie was established in 2008 (holy crap, 10 years?!) by myself, Keli (Catalano) Spanier. I have always had a love of stationery and I truly appreciate a finely crafted paper item. Greeting cards seemed an obvious choice, and I found that the market was really missing truly funny cards. Whenever I looked under the “funny” category at the big box stores, I was nearly always disappointed. (Wouldn’t you agree? Do you actually read those cards and laugh out loud? No.)
Where do my ideas come from? Anything we’re all laughing at. I try to keep it relevant but I prefer not to capitalize on trends. I am always speaking “card” and jotting notes down when I think something is funny and worthy of a card saying. When I meet you at craft shows, you give me some pretty spectacular ideas, too!
I am a designer by trade, and I was classically trained in fine art at the Columbus College of Art & Design. At 25, I ditched my stable corporate job and never looked back. Now that Colette Paperie has grown so much, my dad has finally stopped worrying that I don’t have a steady paycheck. (This took a lot of convincing.) I am obsessed with hand-lettering and calligraphy, and can be found writing beautiful grocery lists at home with my husband and two stepdaughters. My husband and I also run a photography business, Adam & Keli Photography. Check it out if you’re in Cincinnati!
So yes, I do love to design pretty things. But above the design itself, the cards allow me to be as ridiculous, hilarious, and even totally random as I possibly can. Some of the cards are downright crazy. But I like crazy. It’s way more fun. I hope you enjoy laughing at the cards as much as I love creating them!
Colette Paperie is a Cincinnati-based company, with over 200 retailers across the world carrying the brand. I could not do this without my amazing retail establishments, carrying the cards. I appreciate these stores, museums, florists, salons, bookstores, you name it – so very much!
Cards are designed, printed, cut, folded and packaged entirely in-house, and this is something I am super proud of! I wear many hats and will continue to do so as long as I possibly can!
